The process has long been of interest for the Top pride Day Uncle Jack Charles 1943-2022 Shirt but in fact I love this designer, but it’s one that until recently, he didn’t feel was his to take on. “I saw it as the responsibility of the production teams to make better choices in the background,” he said during a conversation at the Crystal Bridges Museum in Arkansas late last year. It was becoming a father that got him thinking about ways that he could actually make an impact. “This is sometimes an intimidating area because you do one initiative that’s positive and [people] are quick to point out the things you’re doing that aren’t,” he said. “But I truly believe we have to face this. We have to put ourselves out there because every small step forward counts.” Sasha Colby is ready. She’s been ready. On Friday, Colby was crowned the winner of season 15 of RuPaul’s Drag Race, coming out on top after one of the fiercest battles in the franchise’s recent history. Yet even before her Drag Race win, Colby—née Sasha Kekauoha of Waimanalo, Hawaii—was considered a drag and pageant legend, having won the prestigious Miss Continental drag queen pageantry title in 2012. She is also known to many as a mother—but not in the way that TikTok has misappropriated the term: Colby has been a mentor to many queer legends in the making, most famously Kerri Colby, who participated in season 14 of Drag Race. But what makes Colby a standout, a star, is not only her polished drag persona and high-octane performance style but her disarming authenticity and vulnerability too.
Sasha Colby is ready, but not just to wear the Top pride Day Uncle Jack Charles 1943-2022 Shirt but in fact I love this Drag Race crown. She’s ready for the next 20 years of uplifting the queer community. “I’ve been preparing myself, getting ready physically but doing a lot of mental health work,” she told me over Zoom ahead of the Drag Race season finale. “I’ve been through so much, but it’s those hardest moments in my life that made me know something had to be really good. It’s the rubber-band effect: The farther you pull back, the further you go.”Colby’s look to enter the Drag Race Werk Room was an ode to her Hawaiian background. In 2020, designer Victor Glemaud established IN THE BLK (ITB), a collective of influential Black fashion creatives that work together to shape the future of the industry by promoting the growth of Black-owned fashion brands. The non-profit association supports designers with a focus on professional growth, job creation, and enhancing their profits; and counts over thirty established and emerging designers along with other industry creatives as members.
